The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC Gombe Zonal office arraigned one Kabir Ismail before Justice Sa’ad Muhammad of the Gombe State High Court on a four count charge bordering on Obtaining Money by False Pretence.
Kabir, who is currently serving seven years imprisonment in a N6.6m case prosecuted by the EFCC and convicted by Justice Abubakar Jauro of the Gombe State High Court is facing another fraud allegation. His latest ordeal followed a petition by one Alhaji Umar Ahmed Kunji of Gombe main market.
The petitioner alledged that sometimes in May, 2014, kabir approached him for a business, used his capacity as a member of Gombe State Zawarawa Marriage Implementation Committee that they need one thousand five hundred (1,500) bags of rice (marori brand) each at the rate of Nine Thousand Naira only (N9,000). This amounted to Thirteen Million Five Hundred Thousand Naira only (N13,500, 000.00) which they both agreed.
After some few days, the suspect came back that his committee need money inleu of rice.
He released the sum of Four million Naira cash (N4m) to the suspect and also a UBA cheque of Eight Million Naira (N8m) in the suspect’s account which which was paid as if he bought the rice from the suspect with agreement that the suspect will return the rice to the complainant.
He later returned goods worth N6.2m and thereby diverted the remaining goods fraudulently to another person.
After arraignment, Kabir pleaded not guilty to all the charge read against him. While remanding the accused person in prison custody, Justice Sa’ad also adjourned the case to 21 and 22 February, 2018 for trial.
