The World Health Organisation (WHO) has donated nothing less than 853 motorcycles to the Nigerian government to help in disease survellance

Country Representative, WHO, Dr. Wondi Alemu, presented the motorcycles to the Minister of Health, Professor Isaac Adewole yesterday in Abuja.

While presenting the motorcycles, Alemu said WHO recognizes that surveillance is at the core of disease control, elimination and eradication efforts, adding that it enables the monitoring and assessment of impact strategies and activities aimed at reducing disease burdens and the tracking of progress towards specific goals.

He stressed that surveillance helps in tracking progress in disease control and serves as an early warning system for impeding public health emergencies.

Aleme added that the donation was to build a highly sensitive and robust system to rapidly detect and respond to diseases of epidemic potential.
